What is the Yoga of Undoing?

The Yoga of Undoing is a deep, slow, and playful approach to yoga inspired by the lineage of Vanda Scaravelli, whose work was shaped by her background in Tai Chi and her life as a musician.

This practice is not about performing poses nor about needing flexibility. With attention to the bones, joints, gravity, and the natural intelligence of the spine, you’re invited to feel lightness, spaciousness, and ease.

The Process of Undoing

This hands-on approach invites you to inhabit your body more fully, gently unwinding habitual and unhelpful movement patterns along the way. As you move toward a pose or asana, attention is brought to the spine, the bones, and how the body relates to gravity.

We practice yielding to gravity and growing up and away from it, creating the conditions for freeing the spine. Rather than fixing or holding a pose, which can create more tension, we explore rhythmic movement, keeping the body responsive and at ease.

Small details, like the contact of a heel, toe, or the full foot, become sources of support and insight. With steady attention, space and ease are rediscovered within the body, tension softens, and a sense of grounding flows naturally into lightness.

Beginners Welcome!

No prior yoga experience is needed, but bringing a curiosity about waking up the intelligence of the body is helpful.

If you are looking for a slower, more intentional way of practicing Yoga in your life, then this workshop is for you.

About Vanda Scaravelli

Vanda Scaravelli (1908–1999) is known for her contribution to the practice of yoga in the West. She learnt yoga as an early student of two of Tirumalai Krishnamacharya's pupils, B. K. S. Iyengar who taught her the asanas, and T. K. V. Desikachar who taught her pranayama (yoga breathing). Her style of yoga was developed with the help of her long-term students—yoga teachers Diane Long & Esther Myers—who continued the evolution of Vanda's non-lineage yoga. Her book Awakening the Spine was called a classic by Yoga Journal.

Scaravelli-lineage yoga, inspired by her work and that of her student for 23 years Diane Long, continues to be taught into the 21st century by teachers such as Nicole Setty, who will be leading you through this workshop.
